The art of choosing the right wash system

Configuring and optimising wash systems for heavy vehicles requires thought. Depending on the application, you should aim for solutions that are tailored to the needs of the vehicles to be washed. A wash bay for construction machinery, for example requires a different equipment package than a bus wash. Westmatic has a large product portfolio in order to tailor optimised systems.

In addition to vehicle type, there are many other factors that influence how a washing system should be configured. The design of the vehicles, number of vehicles to be washed per day, available space and requirements for water treatment are just a few examples of such factors. Westmatic has extensive experience in heavy vehicle washing and all the applications that the market demands.

Bus

In the bus washing application, there are several alternative washing systems to choose from: Rollover, Drive-through and Manual detail washing. You can also choose to combine these if necessary.

Generally speaking, a drive-through wash is the fastest system that is normally best suited to bus depots and larger bus companies. With a washing time of only 60 +  seconds per bus, large volumes can be handled with ease.

In some cases, a Rollover wash may be the better option. This applies in particular when buses when buses are not washed that often , when the bay has one closed end – therefore cannot accommodate a drive through system.

A Rollover system also adds the advantage of a roof brush, when this is required. (The drive through system accommodates the cleaning of the roof through a high pressure system on the top of the equipment. – Advantage of rollover – more thorough clean – Disadvantage – much longer wash time

There are also times when Manual detail washing is sufficient as the only washing equipment. This usually becomes relevant when only a small number of buses are to be washed, and the washing time is not decisive. We can tailor a manual wash system to suit your specific requirements

Truck

Whether you manage a corporate or private fleet, a delivery service, or municipal vehicles, Westmatic Australia offers – The Two Brush Hybrid Drive through or The High-Pressure Tornado, which will  maintain a clean fleet image while extending your vehicle’s lifespan.

Westmatic Australia Drive Through Systems are ideal for refrigeration fleets, delivery trucks, vans, garbage trucks, Skel trailers, b-doubles, both bonneted & cabover prime movers and commercial truck wash operations.

If you are washing a large fleet of trucks and trailers

The Two Brush Hybrid Drive through or The High-Pressure Tornado drive-through system may be the right choice for you. A reduced wash cycle time of approximately 6 Minutes per B-Double gets a large fleet clean and back on the road in no time.

If you are washing a medium sized fleet of trucks and trailers

The 3-brush Rollover Machine – our Viking. This is a very flexible system where fixed washing programs or independently selected functions can be used depending entirely on the type of vehicle and how much dirt has accumulated on the vehicle. This option is suggested for fleets cleaning less than 10 Trucks per day.

Rail

Rail-running vehicles also come in different variants and shapes. Everything from simpler diesel-powered railcars to aerodynamically designed high-speed trains. This variation in combination with other factors, such as for example the number of trains to be washed, the need for graffiti and carcass cleanup, naturally also places demands on how the washing system should be designed.

The most common washing system for rail-running vehicles is Drive-through washing. In these systems, the trains run slowly through the washing system and are guided to start and stop by light signals. The stops that need to be made are so that the front and stern can be washed.

Rollover washes for rail-bound vehicles are also used on certain occasions. It is particularly advantageous to choose this type of system when you combine washing, graffiti and carcass disposal in one and the same wash bay

Special / Custom

Compared to buses, trucks and rail vehicles, construction machinery and other special vehicles with irregular shapes are significantly more challenging to wash. Drive-through washing is therefore not a good option, but Rollover washing is required here, often in combination with manual detail washing.

Since construction and special vehicles generally do not have smooth surfaces to wash, machines with high-pressure washing are normally used instead of brushes.

Just as in other applications, the choice of system is also affected by other factors such as the type and number of vehicles to be washed, space, new or existing wash bay and degree of soiling.

Manual Truck or Bus Wash

Westmatic Australia's well laid out Wash Bays speed up manual vehicle cleaning by up to 40%. Ideal for smaller fleets.

At the heart of a Wash Bay is the high-pressure cleaner or pump station. Westmatic Australia can help you choose the right system to save you money and improve productivity. Our Wash Bay specialists can answer all your questions ranging from how much operating pressure, flow rate, and water temperature is needed to how many users it can support.

Coupled with the ideal high-pressure cleaning station, our EzyFoam application system greatly reduces the cleaning time. EzyFoam is proven to reduce chemical usage by up to 50%.

With the EzyFoam system you can watch the starch build-up on the trucks just run off without using any brooms. Reduce labour and chemical usage.

Our Manual wash systems can be installed as part of a larger washing system. This offers the opportunity to perform a detailed wash or simply remove stubborn bugs

Relocatable Wash Bay

We offer an innovative and flexible solution: a relocatable drive-through wash system.

This system allows you to install state-of-the-art automatic wash equipment tailored to your fleet's needs while maintaining the flexibility to relocate the entire structure, including the wash equipment (excluding the concrete bay floor), if your site requirements change.

By minimising risk and maximising operational flexibility, this solution is ideal for depots located on non-owned sites or even owned sites with future relocation plans.

Our system delivers exceptional performance:

  • Cleaning B-Double trucks in just 6 minutes ( Hybrid 2 Brush Drive-Through equipment)
  • Cleaning standard buses in only 60 seconds ( 2 Brush Drive-Through Compact system)
  • This efficiency translates to significant labour and time savings:
  • with truck drivers staying in their vehicles for just six minutes and bus drivers for only a minute.
  • Coupled with its capabilities, the system is space-efficient:
  • with a truck wash footprint of 24m x 12m and a bus wash footprint of 12m x 12m.

With this game-changing solution, you can maintain the highest fleet hygiene standards, reduce costs, and streamline operations—all without being tied to a specific site.

Small Footprint Bays

Westmatic Australia have developed a game changing solution for depots that require a smaller footprint for their wash bays.

Truck wash

The bay size is 24 Metres in length and 9 Metres in width. Past solutions required bay sizes of approximately 36 Metres in Length. You can save on space and building costs. We can achieve amazing wash results in this new reduced size bay and you can wash your B- Doubles or Triples in this bay

Bus Wash

We can now install our Drive Through Compact Bus Wash in a much smaller sized space.

Our technology achieves remarkable results in a compact 12m x 7.5m space, slightly larger than a standard bus. This reduction in footprint can free up valuable real estate or allow for downsizing your facility, saving on operational and land costs.
